What is PLEK?
PLEK is a computer-controlled system used by our experienced guitar technicians to analyse and precisely level the frets on your instrument.
It scans the neck and fretboard under string tension, allowing us to identify issues with the frets, neck relief and overall setup. Our technicians can then use these measurements to achieve a precise setup tailored to your instrument and playing style.
Could My Guitar Benefit From a PLEK Setup?
A PLEK setup can help with a range of common playability issues, including:
- Fret buzz
- Worn or uneven frets
- High or low string action
- Uneven fingerboards
- Notes fretting out when bending strings
A setup isn't one-size-fits-all. Your preferred string action and setup can vary depending on your playing style, tuning and the condition of your instrument.
Even guitars that were PLEK'd during production can benefit from a setup tailored to the individual player.
What Happens During a PLEK Setup?
Your instrument is first scanned under string tension to analyse the neck, frets and overall setup.
Our technician uses these measurements to identify any adjustments required before the PLEK machine precisely levels and dresses the frets. The instrument is then re-strung, scanned again and checked by our technician.
We'll then complete the final setup, including fret polishing, string action and intonation.

How Long Does It Take?
We normally complete PLEK setups within 7–10 business days, provided no additional repairs or replacement parts are required.
Turnaround times may vary depending on our current workload.
Can I Book a PLEK Scan Only?
Yes. A PLEK diagnostic scan costs £45 and can be used to analyse your instrument's fretwork, neck and setup before deciding whether further work is required.
If you decide to proceed with a full PLEK service, the scan cost will go towards the service.
What Instruments Can Be PLEK'd?
PLEK supports a wide range of instruments, including:
- 4, 5 and 6-string bass guitars
- 7, 8 and 12-string guitars
- Compound-radius necks
- Many headless guitars
If you're unsure whether your instrument is suitable, please contact us before booking.
Can I Post My Guitar to You?
PLEK services are currently available only through our Guildford store.
Because of the risk of damage in transit, we don't currently offer a postal PLEK service or ship instruments back to customers once the work is complete.
How Do I Book?
If you'd like to book a PLEK service, diagnostic scan, setup or repair, please contact our team, and we'll be happy to discuss the work required.
